The Chopin & Schumann Weekend

An outstanding line-up of artists has been invited to the 2010 Leamington Music Festival Weekend.  Most of them are already known to our audiences and indeed no such Weekend would seem complete without the Schubert Ensemble of London and Ensemble 360, both offering programmes that mix the familiar with possible discoveries.

It will be a treat to hear the baritone Roderick Williams, whose international career in opera and other fields mean we seldom hear him back in his home county.  His accompanist Andrew West has not been here for some years, nor has Michael Dussek, another distinguished pianist.

William Howard from the Schubert Ensemble stays on to give what promises to be a fascinating lunchtime recital which includes Wagner and the sister and wife of two of the featured composers.

From the Czech Republic we welcome back the Guarneri Piano Trio, the Wihan String Quartet and the pianist Martin Kasik who made such a strong impression in our memorable Czech Weekend in 2008.

Finally there are four young musicians making their Leamington debuts in this Weekend: the Volten sisters from Holland, their accompanist Abigail Richards and the cellist Gemma Rosefield who stands out among today’s talented British string players.

These Festival Weekends attract music-lovers from all over Britain and there is no better time to be in Leamington to enjoy its parks and hospitality.
