An exhibition of drawings and paintings based on the International String Quartets and Music in the Round
I was delighted to be invited to be Artist in
Residence with Leamington Music. Small groups of musicians,
string quartets in particular, have been a fascination for many
years ever since one weekend in 1988 when all the Haydn quartets
were performed non stop at the Barbican in London.
I am currently exploring how to express visually the experience
of a performance - the interaction of the musicians and the
audience. The colours used often relate to the mood
of the music, though sometimes it is triggered by colours worn.
To view the paintings from the exhibition see Jane Williams pages at the AMA website.

Having the opportunity to attend rehearsals has been fascinating – every rehearsal is different, and nothing like the performance. I decided that each concert should have a rehearsal picture and a performance picture. In the rehearsal pictures I have used drawings on fragments of paper to reflect the fragments of music being played and sometimes different things going on at the same time.
Leamington Music is a registered charity number 1117723 that was launched in July 2006 and aims to maintain Leamington and district as a musical centre dedicated to promoting excellent music.
