The Fitzwilliam Quartet was started by four Cambridge students including Alan George in 1968. Residencies at York and Warwick Universities followed and the Quartet now have residencies in Cambridge and South Africa. Jonathan Rathbone was born in Coventry and was a chorister in the cathedral choir.
