This was the UK debut of the Prague-based Quartet originally formed in 1955 as the Venus Quartet. It has now taken on the name of the composer Vitezslava Kapralova, who died in southwest France in June 1940 as the German army swept through France. Born in 1915, she conducted the BBC Symphony Orchestra in London in 1938 in her prize-winning Military Sinfonietta.
