Venice 1629

1629 was a remarkable year for new music in Venice. Schütz came to the city to learn of latest Italian style of composition from Monteverdi and his contemporaries, while Castello, Grandi and Marini contributed to this pivotal moment in the development of the early Baroque style. Acclaimed period ensemble The Gonzaga Band, directed by Jamie Savan, explores this extraordinary year in the life of these composers and many more in this most musical of cities.
