Dvořák Quartet in C Op 61
Beethoven Quartet in E minor Op 59 No 2 ‘Razumovsky’
The Talich Quartet last played in the series in March 2008 and comes with two new members. The Quartet, founded in 1964 by the present leader’s father, the nephew of the great Czech conductor Václav Talich, has been recognized as one of the country’s leading quartets. Jan Václav Kalivoda was born in Prague in 1801 and was an outstanding violinist, so expect virtuoso writing in this quartet, written in the mid 1830s, when his work was much admired by Schumann. Dvořák at his most lyrical completes the first half of the concert.
